9 . What Your Parents Taught You About Item Upgrader
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item upgrader comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. This value is the sum of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to an lower level). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the item level.
On your PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item upgrades is determined. One theory says that the item level is calculated by an equation that determines the value of an item's stats really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets add to the value of the item overall. This process can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's real item level.
However, this isn't the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, because the size of the area the item is dropped into can change the value of its stats, for example by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Affixes can be used to give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circles arrows. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other rerolling options.
In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may also choose which of the available stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat in the same range, unless it's a unique item or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of the properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It simply gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more useful in the early game than in later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck, or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon that is infused with hollow can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade item, or to protect players from losing their item if it fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Each item has an initial success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by an additional five percent.
Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items which means that enchantment glints and other effects may be masked by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade item overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
