Item upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item upgrader kit. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and boost additional stats.

Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.

Item Level

When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. The value is the sum of all the leveled up advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades to items can be costly dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a widely used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can evaluate the level of an item. It's an excellent indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item.

The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.

There are several theories about how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the amount an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.

This is not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not restrict themselves to a particular weapon, and to encourage them to try out other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times with higher prices.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items, which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges of an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.

Another thing that could change is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. Similar to the base equipment, it would have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in the early game, since players tend to prioritize weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability, which increases with each level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to give +40 Luck or to increase the luck of the item up to 140.

Certain items, like the Hollow-infused weapon, can also be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully, and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't exceed 100%.

The luck of an item can also influence the effectiveness of an upgrade. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item upgrade with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.

The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects.
