It's important to choose the appropriate replacement Upvc handle for your home when your upvc handles need replacing. Locksmiths can provide and fit high-security uPVC handles with added security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Make sure to check these measurements to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a rod that pivots around a point. When you apply a force to the end of the lever it tends to rotate the fulcrum in the direction of the force. This rotates the force and lets you lift or move objects that normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever the greater the advantage in terms of mechanical. You can determine the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you are applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and where you will end the lever.
Levers can have a variety of effects depending on the way forces are applied. A lever in class 2 for instance, has a tendency of rotating in the opposite direction when the force applied to it. If you push the door handle the force will create rotational effects similar to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you apply by making a small amount effort over a large distance into a larger amount of force that is applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge amounts of cargo. This is also the principle behind the levers you find in a variety of everyday tools such as crowbars, fishing rods, hammer claws and even your legs when you sit on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. These come in many variations & finishes and can be used with a variety of materials, including UPVC, Aluminium & Timber doors. They are sold in pairs for the inner and exterior door, with spindles and screws included. They are available both hand and unhandled versions to suit different users.
These are often used for new builds and can be used to replace the existing upvc doors. The levers are lifted to open the multipoint locks and the key is turned to close or unlock the door. They provide a bit more security than standard lever door handles since locking can only be performed by the inside using keys.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock but they're a cost-effective way to provide extra security to your home. The only downside is that they don't offer the same level of security like a cylinder bolt and therefore won't prevent access from outside in the event that the door has been left open.

Lever/Snib
Lever latches, the simplest of door handles are used. The lever is pulled down to open a latch inside the door that can be locked using a key. Some lever privacy handles operate in the same way, but with an additional knob, similar to a doorknob.
A snib-button can be very useful, especially in homes where it's essential to ensure privacy or security. If your partner is arriving home late from work, you can utilize the snib button to ensure that they aren't allowed in until they're ready to come in. This type handle can also be put in for doors in the interior, like those in bedrooms, where you wish to restrict access from outside.
Snib buttons can cause issues in certain circumstances, especially when you have old locks and doors that are warped. If the snib is applied in error or by someone who isn't accustomed to it, the door could close and lock you out. In most cases, you can gain entry by knocking on the door's frame or letterbox, but this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series.
