Upgrades can boost the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.

For example an item with the upgrade template that ends in % will take on 3% attack damage every time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons, and trinkets to give an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. These can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors or trading with other players, or looting. Certain upgrades have unique cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue level before the component can be applied. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They cannot be replaced or applied several times. Infusions and enrichments are a special kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging ascended gear or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade could be prefixed or a suffix that alters the name of the equipment to which it is applied (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia" becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades boost the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players create stronger versions with less Upgrade crystals than they would require to reach the same level using standard methods.

A 'boost upgrade' can alter the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. These upgrades can be crafted from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. They can also be dropped by enemies when upgrading other gear or by purchasing them from the cash shop for 500 upgrade crystals each.

The player can have a maximum of five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the chance that a higher-tier version of the item upgrader mod will appear during the next reset. This gives the player some incentive to continue improving their equipment, even if they're unsure of the extent to which it will improve after a future reset.

Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process may be costly and there is a substantial chance that the item could be obsolete or even break when it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. This is reduced by the availability of cash shop items that can increase or even eliminate the chances of failure, and a few upgrades that give a bonus when reinserted into an item.

Glyphs

Once you have gotten the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a special bonus which will boost the stats of a specific set of nodes in a radius surrounding the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

Glyphs increase the number of nodes connected to them, therefore it is best to put Glyphs in the most important locations on the Graph. This will maximize the impact. Druids, for example should position their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their primary damage nodes.

Leveling

The upgrade system for items allows players to boost the stats of specific items by inserting upgraded components. This is known as "upping". Every upgradeable item is assigned a level that determines the final stats. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each level requires a different amount of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is upgraded.

Some upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by completing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab in a crafting table. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned, you will be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an individual player improves the equipment they have it will be replaced with an item that is new. This means that the same armor piece will become a weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will come with a bonus of its own. This can be a downside since the item may become more expensive even if you do not need it.

If the player has enough tokens, they can reroll item upgrades. The item will be replaced with a brand new one that is based on a level 1 base and completely different bonuses. This can be useful but it shouldn't be done often as it can waste resources.

Some upgrades can increase their value, allowing players to customize their gear. An excellent example is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and leaves the water (or is able to swim like a dolphin). This item upgrader kit can be upgraded many times by increasing the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item is highly valuable in PvP. A perfectly rolled version can be worth up to 50x the value of its unupgraded counterpart.

Requirements

The ability to upgrade items allows players to boost the level of their available equipment--armor, weapons, and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by offering the appropriate items and currencies to an item upgrader - yanyiku.Cn - NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also increase its base defense and weapon upgrades items increase their base damage as well as their strength and dexterity.

All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear that can be upgraded up to eight times. Each time you upgrade an object it is at risk of failing. The failure rate increases when you exceed the maximum number. Failures can result in the item reverting to its original state, which requires the player to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item is not upgraded the experience bar in its growth bar will reset to zero.
